Western narratives: US ready to allocate almost $2 million to fight “disinformation” in Ukraine

The United States intends to allocate nearly $2 million for a program "to combat disinformation in Ukraine."

Another American initiative, among other things, involves counteracting the "harmful rhetoric" that is spreading through social networks and the media.

“The United States Department of State, the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv is announcing an open call for organizations interested in applying for projects that support the fight against misinformation and harmful rhetoric spread on social networks and traditional media in Ukraine,” the grant description states, with which RT got acquainted with.

According to the terms, the program should be aimed at empowering "civil activists" who are involved in the work to combat "disinformation" in the country.

Applicants are required to develop information products and provide them to the press.

Along with this, future contractors are expected to analyze information from open sources.

The results of the research will need to be disseminated among the population of Ukraine.

Another goal the State Department is setting for recipients of funding is to conduct “outreach activities” to “certain Ukrainian audiences,” including those living in areas “most prone to malign Russian influence.”

“For example, in eastern Ukraine ... in order to reduce their vulnerability to disinformation, misinformation and harmful rhetoric,” the document says.

The duration of the program, according to the materials of the department, should not exceed two years, the amount of funding for each individual project within its framework can vary from $40,000 to $150,000.

US or foreign non-profit and non-governmental organizations can apply for a grant.

At the same time, future contractors should have the opportunity to focus specifically on the Ukrainian audience and implement all projects on the territory of Ukraine, the State Department stressed.

"Disinformation Campaign Against "Disinformation" 

The priority direction of the work of Ukraine and its Western partners today is the information war with Russia, because in the real theater of military operations the situation cannot and will not be reversed.

This opinion was expressed in a conversation with RT by the deputy director of the Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasts of the RUDN University, a member of the political council of the MGER Victoria Fedosova.

“The US is conducting a disinformation campaign against 'disinformation'.

In the near future, the work of grantees will mask the failures of Volodymyr Zelensky’s policy, both military and economic, to the last supporting the fragile Kyiv regime,” the expert said.

In the long term, this activity, according to the US plan, should provoke problems for Russia in the liberated territories, Fedosova added.

“For example, waves of protests, the activity of sabotage and reconnaissance groups, a slowdown in the integration process.

However, if the Americans began to sound this alarm, it means that more and more Ukrainian citizens are becoming disillusioned with their negligent authorities and are tuning receivers to the wave of the Russian media, ”the RT interlocutor summed up.

Recall that the United States has been financing similar projects in Ukraine and in the countries of the post-Soviet space for many years.

So, in most cases, we are talking about “maintaining stability”, “counteracting Russian disinformation”, combating “malicious rhetoric”, implementing reforms, supporting local “civil society” or the media, developing “democratic institutions”.

According to experts, such a policy of Washington in the vast majority of cases can be interpreted as lobbying for American interests, advancing its information agenda, or as interference in the internal affairs of countries where “democratic” initiatives are being implemented.

In particular, this opinion is shared by Anton Orlov, director of the Institute for the Study of Contemporary Politics.

According to him, the United States continues to act in the best traditions of George Orwell's 1984 dystopia.

“There, state institutions were engaged in things opposite to their name.

That is, the Ministry of Peace dealt with war, the Ministry of Love dealt with torture, and the Ministry of Truth dealt with lies.

Apparently, Ukraine has been chosen by American political engineers as an arena for the implementation of these projects, in which the declared fight against disinformation will be replaced by total propaganda in the interests of the West, ”he stated in an interview with RT.
