Climate protection demonstrators from the “Last Generation” group have blocked hundreds of roads nationwide this year.

This was the result of a survey by the "Welt am Sonntag" among the police authorities of the federal states.

Berlin reported 149 blockades, Hesse 34, Baden-Württemberg 17, Bavaria eight, Saxony five, Brandenburg four, North Rhine-Westphalia and Bremen three each.

Hamburg even reported 213 “actions” by the group, including meetings.

In Berlin alone, 310 men and women were taken into custody and 67 criminal proceedings initiated.

Especially in Berlin, the blockades of the climate protection demonstrators, who often glued their hands to the asphalt, caused considerable disruption in commuter traffic.

The group is demanding more action from the federal government in the fight against climate change.

Last week the group announced that it would break the blockades in the summer.

Actions are set to continue in the fall.

CDU General Secretary Mario Czaja called for tougher action against the demonstrators.

"Just like hooligans, blockers should be taken into preventive custody consistently and for as long as possible before actions are announced," Czaja told the "Welt am Sonntag".
