Doctor: Biden is recovering from Covid-19 infection

The doctor treating US President Joe Biden said in a note today, Saturday, that the symptoms that appeared on the president as a result of infection with Covid-19 are improving, and that the sore throat has become “less bothersome”, as well as a runny nose, cough and body aches.

Doctor Kevin O'Connor added that the condition of the lungs is good and the oxygen saturation of the blood "remains excellent in room air."

Biden, 79, tested positive for Covid on Thursday, and the White House said he was experiencing mild symptoms.

The diagnosis of a highly contagious strain is leading a new wave of infections in the United States.

The doctor said Biden likely has the BA5 mutation.

"The president continues to tolerate treatment well. We will continue to use Baxlovid as scheduled," he added, referring to Pfizer's antiviral drug, which is being treated by the president.

O'Connor said Biden is not short of breath.

"The PA5 mutant is particularly transmissible and (the president) will continue to be isolated... We will continue to monitor it closely during this very common treatment regimen for out-of-hospital patients," he added.
