In the past year, there have been four accidents involving wind turbines.

The last two in just one week.

But according to expert Anders Wickström, it could be coincidence.

- We have more than 5,000 wind turbines in Sweden that are unmanned and running around the clock, it is clear that one incident or another may occur.

Anders Wickström has, among other things, been a wind power expert in the state's accident commission.

Since 2018, Anders has been working at the state research institute Rise and supports companies with product and concept development in onshore and offshore wind energy.

Four accidents

He does not think that four accidents in one year are alarming.

- It must be remembered that the consequences of an accident are not that great, there are normally no people nearby.

At the same time, the safety level is such that the risk of an accident cannot be completely eliminated.

- Otherwise, the wind turbines would have become significantly more expensive, says Anders Wickström.

In the video, you will hear about possible causes of the breakdowns and how the safety margins are determined.
