With the war in Ukraine, migratory flows – coming from the South in 2015 with the war in Syria – are now exploding in the East.

A real challenge for the European Union, which must be able to count on friends on the international scene, particularly in Africa.

But the continent is threatened with famine, because of the economic consequences of this war, as explained to us by three European Prime Ministers: Alexander de Croo (Belgium), Xavier Bettel (Luxembourg) and Andrej Plenkovic (Croatia).

While the new President of the European Parliament, the Maltese Roberta Metsola, came to share her profession of European faith.

The union of 27 must be more geopolitical than ever.

This conflict at its doorstep forces the EU to react with sanctions against Russia and a denunciation of the crimes of Vladimir Putin, as underlined by the heads of the European executive: Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission and Charles Michel , President of the European Council.

End of the Conference on the Future of Europe

However, this union is made in diversity.

Indeed, nuances and divergences exist between the States on the effectiveness of the sanctions, the European defense, or the refugees: an essential political debate, which we made live on the plate of the European Parliament or that of the Day of the Europe, with very involved MEPs.

But these last few months have also been marked by the end of the Conference on the Future of Europe, a major democratic and participatory exercise, a flagship project of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The various panels of citizens of the 27 countries of the Union delivered their conclusions on May 9, emphasizing the Europe of health and energy.

We followed four young participants throughout this adventure, through a documentary and a webdoc.

We also interviewed its co-president Guy Verhofstadt as well as MEPs involved in this project.

Finally, Europe is striving to achieve ambitious goals in terms of safeguarding our planet, reducing CO2 emissions, but also fighting against waste, one of the pillars of the EU for a circular economy, it is the law on the "right to repair" which should be passed at the end of the year.

Some citizens have anticipated the call, as shown by the report by our correspondent in Brussels Alix le Bourdon.
