Senegalese Sadio Mané, a former Liverpool player, was among the ten players selected for the title of African Player of the Year 2022, awarded by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

He was rewarded this Thursday, July 21 in Rabat, Morocco.

After the 2020 and 2021 editions canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the name of the 2022 winner was announced on the sidelines of the Women's African Cup of Nations.

Already distinguished in 2019, the 30-year-old Senegalese, who left the Premier League last month for Bayern Munich and the Bundesliga, was the favorite for this 2022 edition.

Sadio Mané led Senegal to a historic first victory in the African Cup of Nations final in Cameroon earlier this year against Mohamed Salah's Egypt.

Mané also helped qualify his country for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, again dismissing the Pharaohs in qualifying.

With the Reds, the Teranga Lion won the FA Cup, the League Cup and played in the Champions League final, losing to Real Madrid.

The new star of Bayern Munich has already opened his counter on a summer tour in the United States against DC United on the night of Wednesday to Thursday.

The Bavarians hit hard by winning 6-2. Sadio Mané opened the scoring on a penalty from the 5th minute.

Among the women, Ajara Nchout Njoya (Cameroon & Inter Milan), Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria & Barcelona) and Grace Chanda (Zambia & BIIK Kazygurt) battled for the title of African Player of the Year.
