• Politics Pedro Sánchez resets the PSOE: María Jesús Montero as 'number two' and Pilar Alegría and Patxi López as spokespersons

  • Crisis The Feijóo effect and the dysfunctions force Sánchez to a profound remodeling of the PSOE

The departure of Adriana Lastra as

number two

of the PSOE accelerated the remodeling of the party that Pedro Sánchez has chewed for a long time.

It was assumed that the party was "limping", a boost was necessary, a reset.

As a priority objective: to have a "global vision of government action".

To achieve this, the chief executive and socialist general secretary will create a hard core of nine people, 10 with him, who will concentrate "real power."

A team made up of five ministers and in which

Óscar López

, his chief of staff, is integrated.

The latest electoral setbacks, the

Feijóo effect

, the internal "confrontation", the current context of crisis due to the war in Ukraine and the realization that the transfer of the Government's action to the citizens was not optimal had forced him to have to move file.

And it is not that he moves one, but that he undertakes a total remodeling of the PSOE.

The changes that he undertook less than a year ago, in the federal congress, have not borne the expected results.

He must amend his own plan.

In La Moncloa there is a fixation that "citizens know the policies we make".

It is not understood that good data on employment and affiliation to Social Security do not translate into electoral returns.

Rather the opposite.

The feeling in the presidential complex is that the party did not add up to the cause.

Sánchez seeks to turn that scenario around with a new organization chart in which a hard core of nine people will be the ones who "concentrate strategic decision-making," government sources told this newspaper.

That sort of steering committee will be made up of the ministers María Jesús Montero -who will also be the new deputy general secretary-, Isabel Rodríguez, Félix Bolaños, Pilar Alegría-new spokesperson for the PSOE- and Miquel Iceta.

They are joined by the aforementioned Óscar López, the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE,

Santos Cerdán,

and the spokesmen in the Cortes Patxi López -assumes the position in Congress- and

Eva Granados.

"It is a team of people with political weight, which brings together political and governmental muscle, where real power is going to be concentrated," the sources consulted describe.

In this hard core, in addition to the people trusted by Sánchez, are included the four spokesmen that the President of the Government will now have -

Rodríguez

(Government);

Joy

(party);

López

(Congress) and

Granados

(Senate) - with the aim of achieving "greater coordination and transversality".

This is how the government sources summarize it: "Have a global vision of the Government's action", with the final purpose of "greasing the machinery and strengthening all the spaces of the PSOE".

The order is clear: "Put all the voices and the force ahead to announce what we are in. That is what the PSOE is focused on," described Félix Bolaños, Minister of the Presidency, and one of the people who will make up that hard core.

"The effort that we have to make from the Government and from the PSOE is to explain to the public what we do."

In response to this maxim, the changes in spokespersons are explained: the minister Pilar Alegría, with a clear projection in the party, will assume the spokesperson for the party to replace

Felipe Sicilia;

and Patxi López will do the same in Congress, to the detriment of

Héctor Gómez.

Added to them is the appointment of María Jesús Montero as deputy secretary general, after the departure of Lastra.

"They are profiles of the deep PSOE, who enjoy weight and recognition in the party," describe socialist sources.
