The United States is also overheating with temperature records in several states.

While the US president's big climate plan was buried by Congress for lack of a majority, Joe Biden promised on Wednesday to use his executive powers to try to act despite everything.

While 100 million Americans are placed on heat wave alert, Joe Biden went to northeast Massachusetts to the site of a former polluting coal factory being converted to wind power to deliver his message.

Climate change is "

a clear and immediate danger

" as well as an "

existential threat to our nation and the world

 ", the US president said.

"

The health of our fellow citizens is at stake

", as well as "

 our national security

 " and "

 our economy

 ", he added.

But his last hopes of passing his climate plan to Congress were dashed last week by a senator from his own majority,

Joe Manchin, an elected official who made his fortune in coal

and refuses to sign a text, even a minimum.

Declaration of a state of emergency

So Biden promises to use his executive powers.

Climate change is an existential threat to our nation and the rest of the world.

Since Congress is not doing what it should, I will use my executive powers to fight the climate crisis and Congressional inaction

,” he said.

Many in their majority are calling on Joe Biden to declare a state of climate emergency.

The maneuver would allow it to use military funds to develop renewable energies and try to meet its commitments to reduce greenhouse gases.

The White House could announce it in the coming days.
