The World Health Organization (WHO) has decided to decide again whether to declare an international public health emergency over the spread of monkeypox infection.

WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus held a press conference yesterday (20th) local time and said, "We have confirmed that there have been 14,000 cases of monkeypox around the world and that there have been 5 deaths in Africa." The emergency committee will convene today to decide whether to declare a state of emergency.

The WHO held an emergency committee last month as well, but judged that it did not meet the requirements yet in light of the spread of monkeypox and the fatality rate.
