Recently, SVT Nyheter, among others, has reported that many fighter pilots have submitted applications for leave to study and that dissatisfaction among the country's fighter pilots has increased.

Wage development and retirement age

In the background are deteriorating conditions, such as a wage development that is clearly below the general wage development since the last century and not least that a retirement age of 55 years has been removed without any further compensation.

- It has now reached a degree where you no longer see that it is paid or that you want to stay in the Armed Forces but you are looking for another career, said Per Martin Sternevi, chairman of the Defense Pilots' interest organization to SVT News last week.

What consequences

After the reports about the fighter pilot flight and after conversations with fighter pilots, Mikael Oscarsson, the Christian Democrats' defense policy spokesman, decided to call around to other members of the Riksdag's defense committee to gather a majority to break the summer break and call for an extra meeting.

- We need to find out from ÖB if it is so bad that so many fighter pilots are about to stop.

We want to know what the consequences will be, what ÖB can do and what else there is we can do from a political point of view to save these pilots, says Mikael Oscarsson.

From the Swedish Armed Forces' side, the Chief of the Air Force Carl-Johan Edström has previously, in Dagens Nyheter, among others, expressed concern about the personnel situation, but he is currently not available to comment on this further for SVT Nyheter.
