China News Service, Hong Kong, July 20 (Reporter Suo Youwei) The 2022 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE, equivalent to the mainland college entrance examination) will be released on July 20.

In response to the continuous increase in the popularity of new DSE candidates applying for colleges and universities in the mainland, Hong Kong mainland education guidance experts and Hong Kong students who are studying in the mainland were interviewed by a reporter from China News Agency and believed that in recent years, the "trend" of Hong Kong students going to the mainland to study in the mainland actually reflects the development of the country. There are many opportunities for studying in mainland universities, and there are many learning harvests, and the future career development space is broader.

It is an important way for mainland students to study in Hong Kong universities and Hong Kong students to "go north" to study.

With the increase of exchanges and integration year by year, the number of mainland universities that Hong Kong DSE candidates can apply for has increased to 129, and the number of Hong Kong students going to the mainland for further studies has also continued to increase.

According to the data released earlier by the China Education and Study Abroad Exchange (Hong Kong) Center, a total of 4,890 Hong Kong candidates for the 2022 DES have applied for admission to universities in the Mainland, the highest ever, accounting for 9.76% of the DSE participants, a record high.

Chen Tianhui, a Hong Kong student who is studying at Sun Yat-sen University, is one of the members who chose to study in mainland universities a few years ago.

"The experience of studying in the Mainland is very rich." Chen Tianhui told reporters that in order to complete the course requirements for fieldwork, he went to Kangle Village in Guangzhou to eat, live and work with the workers, trying to come up with solutions to improve the lives of grassroots workers.

He also went to the Yao village in Liannan, Guangdong, where he worked as a resident social worker for four months.

In May 2022, he was selected as one of the "Top Ten Outstanding Hong Kong Students in the Greater Bay Area".

"There are many places that attract me to colleges in the mainland. We have dozens of majors in Sun Yat-sen University, and basically I can find a major that suits me. So I studied sociology for four years and learned a lot, including studying sociology in the mainland. One advantage is that there are many opportunities to go to fieldwork." Chen Tianhui said: "I found reading to be very interesting, so I continued to take the postgraduate entrance examination and stayed at Sun Yat-sen University."

Luo Yongxiang, the principal of Xiangdao College and an expert in mainland education guidance, said that the number of Hong Kong students applying for mainland universities has increased steadily for six consecutive years, and the growth rate has exceeded 20% in the past two years.

In addition to the increasing international recognition of mainland universities, it reflects that Hong Kong students and parents have confidence in the country's economic and social development prospects, and they value and are optimistic about the benefits of studying in mainland universities for their career development.

Luo Yongxiang believes that benefiting from the admission policy of many famous mainland schools, scholarships provided by the Ministry of Education for Hong Kong students, etc., and the exchange of academic qualifications between the mainland and Hong Kong, Hong Kong students going to the mainland to further their studies can give them a broader space for future career development.” After graduation, some of our students who apply for the mainland universities are engaged in financial investment management and high-end talents in all walks of life. From a personal point of view, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is of course a good development opportunity for Hong Kong students.”

"Some people think that Hong Kong students go to the mainland to study because of cheaper tuition fees and more preferential policies, but it is more practical for students to choose a study destination, and more importantly, to focus on the development of their careers in the future. I think from a certain point of view, everyone To vote with your feet is to cast a vote for the development of the country." Luo Yongxiang said that the trend of Hong Kong students going to the mainland to study in recent years actually reflects the development of the country. The development of the country and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area have brought Hong Kong students Great opportunity.
