Washington announces its refusal to recognize any regions that join Russia

The Coordinator of Strategic Communications at the US National Security Council, John Kirby, announced that the United States will not recognize the accession of any Ukrainian regions to Russia.

"If Russia continues to implement its plans, we will react quickly and firmly in a unified way with allies and partners," Kirby said.

He added that if new regions are joined to Russia, "Moscow will face additional sanctions."

Kirill Strimosov, deputy head of the Civil Military Administration of Kherson Province, which was recently liberated by the Russian army in southern Ukraine, announced that the province will hold a public referendum on joining Russia next fall.
