Since January 1, police officers have been able to benefit from reductions and free travel on SNCF and Ouigo trains, in exchange for their assistance in securing journeys.

More than 100,000 journeys have thus been affected since the establishment by the general management of the national police of this "travel-protect" system.

Is there a policeman on the train?

Whatever their rank or assignment, since the beginning of the year, the 150,000 French police officers have been able to benefit from reductions and free train tickets, in exchange for their armed presence on the trains, and on condition that they reported themselves to the skipper.

100% free for home-work journeys of more than 1h15

According to information from Europe 1, more than 100,000 journeys have thus been secured since the implementation of the "travel-protect" system of the General Directorate of the National Police (DGPN).

82% of these journeys concern TGV and Intercités, 18% Ouigo.

Among the lines most frequented by the police: Paris-Aix-Marseille, Paris-Bordeaux, Paris-Lyon, Paris-Lille and Paris-Montpellier.

Clearly, for seven months now, controllers can call on the police on board to settle disputes.

"The interventions revolve around the incivilities that can be encountered mainly on the train", explains to the microphone of Europe 1 Sonia Fibleuil, spokesperson for the national police.

"We have the example of a police officer who assisted a controller with an aggressive individual, or even police officers who intervened to stop touching."

More than 200 police officers already benefit from it

In exchange for their armed presence on the train, Place Beauvau covers 75% of the price of the 2nd class ticket for leisure journeys.

And up to 100% for journeys of more than 1h15 between home and work.

More than 200 police officers already benefit from this free service.

According to information from Europe 1, since the beginning of the year, the police have been asked about fifty times to intervene in these trains.

Place Beauvau expects to see these figures increase in the summer period when leaving and returning from vacation.
