Faced with the heatwave episode affecting the capital, the RATP said on Tuesday that it had greatly reduced the speed of certain RER, metros and trams traveling in the open air.

The lines concerned are those of the RER A and B, or even the overhead sections of metro lines 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 13 and the T1 and T2 trams.

The RATP indicated on Tuesday that it had greatly reduced the speed of certain RERs, metros and trams circulating in the open air, the high heat endangering the infrastructures.

The temperature should reach 57°C on certain sections of the rails on Tuesday afternoon, "requiring, as a safety measure, the limitation of the speed of the trains", explained the management in a press release.

Organized water distributions

This concerns lines A and B of the RER, the aerial sections of metro lines 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 13 and the T1 and T2 trams.

The RERs only run there at a maximum of 60 km/h instead of the usual 100 km/h and the metro at 30-40 km/h instead of 60 km/h.

The rails are checked in real time, as well as the catenaries of the RER and trams are monitored during the day, assured the RATP.

Several water distributions were organized Tuesday in stations or stations of the RATP network, according to the public company.

The maximum temperature was expected to reach 41°C in the capital, according to Météo-France.
