More than a thousand animals will be evacuated in the coming hours from the Bassin d'Arcachon zoo in La Teste-de-Buch, in Gironde, where thousands of people are also leaving due to fumes from fires.

"Following recommendations from the authorities, we are going to do our best to evacuate all the animals from the Bassin d'Arcachon zoo. The crating operations for transport have started", declared the director of the French Association of zoos, Cécile Erny.
