  European Commission President von der Leyen said in a speech at the North Malaysian Parliament on the 14th that North Macedonia should seize the opportunity to pass the French proposal through a vote, so that the country will have the opportunity to launch accession negotiations with the European Union next week.

The French proposal clearly protects the interests of Northern Malaysia and resolves the differences between the parties.

  North Macedonia became a candidate country for the European Union in 2005.

An intergovernmental meeting between the European Union and Northern Malaysia and Albania on accession was originally scheduled for the end of 2020, but was postponed due to disputes between Bulgaria and Northern Malaysia over issues such as national identity.

In June this year, Bulgaria decided to lift its veto against North Malaysia's accession talks with the EU.
