The president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Laurent Wauquiez, gave up this Sunday to run for the presidency of his right-wing party, Les Républicains, which must designate Christian Jacob's successor in the fall.

“Today, after much thought, I have decided not to be a candidate for the presidency of the Republicans”, announced the one whose Christian Jacob had made his favorite to succeed him, in a press release posted on his Facebook account.

Laurent Wauquiez had not applied for the LR primary either.
