The hot and dry weather in southern Europe has created favorable conditions for forest fires and despite the fact that the temperature in south-eastern France has begun to fall, it does not stop the fires.

"There are no people left in my city," Mylene Doerau, mayor of Guillos, told Reuters.

Temporary shelters have been set up in several parts of the country and according to TT, many holidaymakers choose to cancel their trip and go home instead of being evacuated to temporary accommodation.

Other countries in Europe - such as Spain, Croatia and Portugal - have also been hit hard by the European heat wave, which has led to hundreds of deaths and several major forest fires in the past week.

In the UK, the government has introduced a national emergency.
