Saudi Arabia and Iraq sign the electrical interconnection agreement between Baghdad and the "Gulf Cooperation Council" countries

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Iraq signed an agreement for electrical interconnection between the Gulf electricity network and the electricity network of southern Iraq.

According to the official Saudi News Agency, the Electricity Interconnection Authority of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and the Ministry of Electricity in the Republic of Iraq signed on the sidelines of the Jeddah Security and Development Summit, hosted by the Kingdom, the contract to connect the Gulf interconnection network and the electricity network of southern Iraq, in the presence of Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz Minister of Energy, and Minister of Oil of the Republic of Iraq Ihsan Abdul Jabbar.

The contract was signed on the part of the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority, Dr. Nayef Al-Abadi, and on the part of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, Engineer Adel Karim, who is authorized with the powers of the Minister to manage the Ministry of Electricity.

The contract includes the establishment of the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority to establish electrical interconnection lines from the authority's station in the State of Kuwait to the Al-Faw station located in the south of the Republic of Iraq, to ​​supply southern Iraq with about 500 megawatts of energy from the countries of the Cooperation Council through the Gulf electrical interconnection network, including the electrical interconnection lines The new construction, which will take about 24 months to work, will have a total transmission capacity of 1800 MW.

During the past hours, Prince Muhammad bin Salman, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, received Mustafa Al-Kazemi, the Iraqi Prime Minister, at King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, to participate in the Jeddah Summit for Security and Development.

Also in the reception were Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Governor of Makkah Al-Mukarramah Region, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Engineer Abdul Rahman Al-Fadhli, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Kingdom, Dr. Abdul Sattar Al-Janabi, and Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Iraq Abdul Aziz Al-Shamri.
