On July 14, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin hosted a regular press conference on the 14th.

A reporter asked: The Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum released a document that mentioned Japan's discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean.

The foreign ministers reiterated that Japan's release of nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean could have intergenerational impacts, and the peoples of the Pacific island nations are of major concern.

The foreign ministers also reviewed the scientific advice provided by the Forum's independent panel of experts, who pointed out that the data and information provided by the Japanese side were insufficient for further security assessments.

What is China's comment?

Wang Wenbin: We have noted the remarks made by the foreign ministers of the Pacific Islands, and we feel the same way. This reflects the serious concern of the international community over the disposal of nuclear-contaminated water in Fukushima, Japan.

Once again, this issue is related to the global marine environment and the public health of relevant countries, and is not a matter for the Japanese side.

Regrettably, for more than a year, the Japanese government has not made scientific and credible explanations on key issues such as the reliability of nuclear-contaminated water data, the effectiveness of purification devices, and the uncertainty of environmental impact. The nuclear-polluted water discharge plan was approved, and the construction of the discharge project was started.

It is very irresponsible to disregard the concerns of all parties and attempt to create established facts.

China once again urges the Japanese side to pay attention to the legitimate and reasonable concerns of all parties, stop forcing the plan to discharge the sea, and fully consult with stakeholders including neighboring countries and Pacific island countries and relevant international institutions to find a proper way to dispose of nuclear-contaminated water.
