[Global Times Comprehensive Report] Thailand's Senate passed an important bill with 145 votes in favor and 2 abstentions on the 11th, bringing the country's legislation one step closer to "chemical castration" as a means of combating sex crimes.

Thailand's "Bangkok Post" reported on the 13th that according to the content of the bill, sex offenders in Thailand can choose to undergo "chemical castration" in the future - that is, to suppress their sexual impulses through drug control of testosterone levels.

The application for drug injection must be approved by two professional doctors, and the criminal who receives the injection can get a certain reduction in sentence accordingly.

However, criminals who have been "chemically castrated" are still required to wear electronic shackles and be monitored for up to ten years after they are released from prison.

In addition, this drug also requires long-term injections, once every three months on average, and a single injection costs about 100,000 baht (about 18,500 yuan).

The report said Thailand's "chemical castration" law applies to violent sex offenders who have not changed their minds.

The bill passed the House of Representatives in February this year.
