A large outage temporarily affected access to the social network Twitter on Thursday, particularly in the United States and Europe where several users found themselves confronted with an error message, before the apparent restoration of the service.

The extent of the outage was not immediately known and the platform did not immediately respond to a request from AFP.

But the Downdetector site has identified nearly 55,000 reports of Internet users prevented from using the platform, the first having appeared around 11:50 a.m. Paris time.

The outage seems to have lasted an hour and in the middle of the afternoon, things are back to normal.
