In the northern part of Öland, however, the weather has not been to the advantage of farmers who produce grain.

This is due to the prolonged drought that has hung in the ground since the hot summer of 2018.

- You live in a dire situation and I hope every day that there will be rain that saves the situation.

My assessment is that the harvest this year will be 70 percent of the normal harvest, so it is not completely without a lot yet, says Per Pettersson, farmer and district chairman Lantmännen.

The input goods have more than doubled

The first harvest of the year on Öland was favorable for farmers, according to Per Pettersson.

But after April, the rain has shown itself with its absence.

This means that the forthcoming harvest can be reduced and not only financially affected, but also the opportunities for farmers with animals to have access to sufficient fodder.

- When you suffer from drought for the fifth year in a row, the inputs have more than doubled in price due to the war in Ukraine.

We with animals are in great need of feed, then you are in extra need of our own harvest.

What happens if there is a drought next year as well?

- It will be dramatic.

Because then many crops such as potatoes, corn, and other crops are losing, then you have to pick up those volumes with.

It just has to rain, says Per Pettersson.
