The East Indiaman Gothenburg is today the world's largest wooden ship and was built in 1993 as a replica of an 18th century ship.

The purpose of the expedition is to promote Swedish-Asian trade and create new business opportunities.

But the long journey to Asia has its risks.

- One of the risks is pirate areas that we must get past.

We are arranging security for it, but it is secret, says Kristoffer Bennis, expedition leader at Ostindiefararen Götheborg.

The ship will stay in the Mediterranean over the winter and is expected to reach Shanghai in September 2023.
