After Tuesday, eight politicians are running for the role of Boris Johnson's successor in the Tory party.

In a new vote on Wednesday, the support of 30 MPs is needed to move forward, and the candidates are then expected to be fewer.

The Conservative MPs will vote at 2.30 pm, Swedish time, and the result is expected at 6 pm.

Eight candidates passed Tuesday's thinning, as 20 nominations were required from MPs to proceed to today's vote.

- It is an exciting knockout competition, says foreign affairs reporter Rolf Fredriksson.

Former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak and Deputy Trade Minister Penny Mordaunt are the favorites, British media reports.

By Thursday 21 July, there will only be two candidates left, and the result will be announced on 5 September.

The election will be decided during the summer by postal ballot of the more than 160,000 Tory members.

In the video, Fredriksson tells more about the process and about the main candidates.
