Despite its failure, the motion of censure continues to make people talk.

This is particularly the case in the Socialist Party where the First Secretary tries to understand why several deputies did not vote for him, despite their signature.

“They signed this motion, since to table it you have to sign it, they signed it, except one, except [the deputy for Meurthe-et-Moselle] Dominique Potier.

I imagine that if they signed it, it's because they wanted to vote for it, and if they weren't there, it's because they couldn't be there, ”argued Olivier Faure on LCI.

The only explanation, according to him, is that these deputies were absent from the National Assembly at the time of the vote.

“I will see them this (Tuesday) morning, I will try to understand why they were not there yesterday (Monday)”, Olivier Faure said on LCI on Tuesday.

“I will ask them the question to find out what their reasons were”, he added, stressing that he had “no wand to tap on his fingers”.

But “there is an inconsistency in signing a text and then not voting on it,” he acknowledged.

Party unity not questioned

Asked whether this constituted a "breach" in the unity of the PS within Nupes, he called not to seek "to see breaches everywhere".

The first secretary recalled that “there are times when there are debates, and in our country, which is a very democratic party, there are people who think very differently”.

But "there was a collective choice, there was an internal debate", during which the motion of no confidence "had been widely approved", he underlined.

No penalty

Asked about possible sanctions, he replied “no”.

“There is a discipline that we must apply ourselves, because the overall coherence is not perceived by the general public when people vote white and others black, but the reality is that in our constitution, the imperative mandate is null”.

The motion of censure of the left alliance did not completely fill up with the 151 votes of the Insoumis, socialists, ecologists and communists, since it only collected 146 votes, including that of the sovereignist Nicolas Dupont-Aignan.

Six socialists have defected, including Valérie Rabault, the former president of the PS group.
