Bannon, who was an adviser to former U.S. President Donald Trump, was charged with contempt of court for refusing to cooperate with the congressional unrest investigation and will face trial soon, according to reports.

Bannon's lawyers argued at the time that he espoused Trump's assertion of executive privilege, which bars Bannon from providing materials requested by the special committee.

It is unclear what impact Bannon will have on his upcoming trial if he eventually testifies before a House select committee, the report said.

Bannon pleaded not guilty to two counts of contempt of Congress and faces up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $100,000 if convicted.
