“I hereby submit for consultation and consent of the Senate on the ratification of the protocols to the North Atlantic Treaty of 1949 on the accession of the Republic of Finland and the Kingdom of Sweden,” the letter says.

It is noted that the full ratification of the protocols will allow countries to become members of NATO.

On July 5, Canada ratified the protocols on the accession of Finland and Sweden to the North Atlantic Alliance.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin noted that Russia would be forced to respond mirror to the possible deployment of NATO military infrastructure in Finland and Sweden after the countries join the alliance.
