200 grocery bags per week.

This is how the Uppsala City Mission divides into families who are in need of food support.

This is a figure that, according to the aid organization, has increased sharply in recent times due to rising inflation, which has made it increasingly difficult for more and more people to buy food in ordinary shops.

- There are more families who get in touch, you do not get the finances to go together with the food.

Everything has become more expensive, says Johanna Rudmark Hagström at Uppsala Stadmission.

Need for a larger room

The great demand has forced the City Mission's Food Center to move to a new location, where they can receive more food.

Every week, they receive about four tons of food from various stores, which are later sorted into hundreds of food bags.

Those who apply to Matcentralen are primarily families with children, pensioners with low pensions, single mothers and people who have recently come to Sweden from other countries.

- In total, there are over 380 children in the needy families who come here, it is extra important for them to get what they need, says Johanna Rudmark Hagström.

The requirement for a grocery bag is that the income must not be higher than SEK 9,200 a month.

According to the City Mission, the new families who have applied to Matcentralen recently are about those who have previously just managed on their income, but who have found it difficult due to rising inflation.
