As the beaches fill up at the start of summer, many catering or tourism professionals are struggling to find enough seasonal workers.

This is the case in Le Touquet, in Pas-de-Calais, where several managers rely on a small team.

Europe 1 went there.

Le Touquet, a popular seaside resort, located in Pas-de-Calais, lacks seasonal workers.

Many professionals find themselves understaffed, such as Hubert who manages a bar located next to the seafront. This boss is worried because he will have to change his hours this summer.

"We are short of staff. We are looking for experienced bartenders, but we can't find any. When we don't have staff, we adapt. We should open every day at 11 a.m., we won't be able to. will open twice at 4 p.m. Instead of opening 7 days a week at 11 a.m., we will open twice a week at 4 p.m. It's a shortfall, but we don't have the staff. So if you don't don't have it and you pull the rope on the rest of the employees, it doesn't work either", he remarks.

According to him, the situation is more difficult this year.

He believes that the increase in wages can make the job more attractive.

More and more beginners

Especially since some seasonal workers sometimes find it difficult to find accommodation once there.

This is precisely what prevented this director of another establishment from recruiting this year.

"I lost good elements who could do the season with us and they left because they had no accommodation. So they go elsewhere, to other cities where they have accommodation or they return home. . And some don't work when they were ready to work", he regrets.

Experienced employees are disappearing, notes this manager.

In some bars and restaurants, beginners represent half of the employees this summer.
