According to Spiegel, citing sources in the capitals of states, after the scandal in Berlin, efforts were made to resolve the situation and agreed on a telephone conversation between the leaders.

“Steinmeier expressed solidarity with Zelensky and received an invitation to Kyiv.

The conflict seemed to be over.

Apparently, a phone call could well lead to another scandal - but this time because of Steinmeier, ”the publication says.

According to the publication, Zelensky expressed regret over the current situation and called it a "major misunderstanding", after which he again invited Steinmeier to come to Kyiv.

The new date turned out to be inconvenient for the German president, and he demanded that the Ukrainian leader explain the cancellation of the last visit.

“When Zelensky stated that he knew nothing about this incident, Steinmeier is said to have become angry... After Zelensky again tried to change the subject, Steinmeier asked the question a third time, resulting in reaction from a Ukrainian,” Spiegel’s sources said.

This is not the first diplomatic misunderstanding between politicians from Germany and Ukraine.

Earlier, the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, called German Chancellor Olaf Scholz an "offended liver sausage", who behaves "not very stately."

This is how the Ukrainian diplomat commented on the refusal of the German politician to go to Kyiv after the Kyiv authorities refused to admit President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Scholz himself did not evaluate the statements of the Ambassador of Ukraine.
