The vice president has just returned from Almedalen, where she believes she has received a good response to the demand for relocation grants.

- I feel that the supply of skills in the north is one of the big issues that was discussed in Almedalen and many have said and think that measures of various kinds are needed, says Åsa Allan, vice president of Kaunis Iron.

She continues:

- Here, a whole range of measures will be needed to manage this supply of skills.

Relocation allowance is one thing, but other rules to be able to recruit competence from abroad are also needed.

Do not want fly-in-fly-out culture

One of the reasons why they now demand relocation grants is that they want as many as possible who are to be recruited to the mining company also to settle in Pajala municipality.

- We absolutely do not want a fly-in-fly-out culture, says Åsa Allan.

Why not?

- Firstly, it creates tax revenue for the municipality, but we also experience that the staff feel better about being able to live and work in the place where they work.

"Need to get better at educating ourselves"

There has been a lot of talk about relocation requirements over the years, that if you are unemployed, you should move to where the jobs are, what do you think about that?

- I do not believe in the long run that you force people to move.

I do not think that is the solution.

I think we need to get better at educating ourselves and adjusting, that if you are unemployed you can get the opportunity to educate yourself in areas where there are actually jobs, says Åsa Allan.
