Abe

was taken by ambulance to a hospital after the incident and health services are trying to restore his vital signs, according to police and health services in the city of Nara (western Japan), where the attack took place.

A man has been arrested for the attempted assassination of the former prime minister.

The man appeared to be in his 40s, according to public network NHK, citing police sources.
