This Thursday, July 7, an impressive fire runs through the Cévennes and the villages of Bordezac, Bessèges and Gagnières, located in the Gard department.

Particularly active because favored by the violent winds which blow, it has already ravaged 600 hectares.

680 firefighters are engaged to fight two fires.

A "mega-fire" was still underway this Friday in the Gard Cévennes.

The fire broke out late Thursday afternoon near Bessèges before spreading rapidly in an area difficult to access for firefighters.

The fire, fanned by a strong mistral, could last several days.

Residents must remain confined

Currently, 680 firefighters are engaged to fight two fires.

That of Générac, which covered 280 hectares, remained under active surveillance and that of Bessèges, where 620 hectares burned.

It progresses more slowly but is still not under control.

Fortunately, for the moment, no victim is to be deplored.

Residents just have to stay confined.

And in terms of damage, a house was destroyed in the town of Bordezac and a garage in Bessèges.

High temperatures and extremely strong wind

The lieutenant colonel in Grigny remains on the alert: "There are two aspects to today's risks. There is an edge which escapes, that is to say which spreads the fire to an extremely wooded area and not The risk is that this creates a blowtorch effect on a new area and that it restarts the fire identically with the same violence as that which we experienced yesterday. The second risk weighs on the entire department: temperatures high, a marked drought and an extremely strong wind".
