No respite for Valérie and her family for six hours: they loaded the car, then spun on the road.

REPORTAGE

The suitcases are packed, the tank is full?

You may be one of the lucky French people who are going on vacation this Friday.

Europe 1 went for a ride on a motorway service area in Les Herbiers, in Vendée.

There, beach lovers are close to the goal.

"Yesterday we were working and today we are on the road. Direct!"

No respite for Valérie and her family: as soon as the job was finished in the Yonne, they loaded the car, slept a little, for a departure at 6 am this morning, heading for the Vendée.

A long road which, with fuel at almost 2 euros per liter, is becoming more and more expensive.

"It's a bit of a budget restriction, but we try not to think about it too much," concedes Valérie.

"When there is more money, we stop spending, it's simple," she laughs.

In the meantime, 15-year-old Romane is eager to arrive to finally dive into the Atlantic.

On the program: "Go to the sea, party too, and enjoy", without a vacation book on the horizon.

"We are back to work"

For their part, Sylvie and Claire return home, direction Fécamp, after a week spent in Royan: "We took advantage. We are back to work."

Not frustrating to return when everyone leaves?

On the contrary, they tell the microphone of Europe 1, "because the temperatures will rise, and the heat and us, that makes two. We are going to take a little freshness" in the north of the country.

And then, a significant advantage, there are fewer people on the road in the other direction.

Vendée, sixth most touristic department

Back to work for some, vacation for many others, with no desire to hear about the Covid-19.

"We've been scared for two years now and so far we've survived," said this vacationer.

"Now we will stop being afraid and we will try to enjoy it better."

Enjoying is the watchword in Vendée, the sixth most touristic department in France.
