“A terrible tragedy”: a suspect in the rape and murder of an eight-year-old boy was detained in Monchegorsk

A man suspected of sexual violence and murder of an 8-year-old boy in Monchegorsk was detained in the Murmansk region.

According to the regional department of the Investigative Committee, it turned out to be a 52-year-old local resident.

The detainee has already been charged under paragraphs.

105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Murder of a minor committed in order to hide another crime) and paragraph “b” of Part 4 of Art.

132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violent acts of a sexual nature committed against a person under the age of fourteen”).

“Thanks to the painstaking work of the Investigative Committee and the police, the involvement of a local resident born in 1970 in the commission of a crime against an 8-year-old boy has been established.

The relevant evidence was obtained as a result of well-conducted investigative actions, operational-search measures, as well as timely appointed and conducted forensic examinations, including medical, molecular genetic, forensic ones, ”the official statement of the Investigative Committee of the Murmansk Region says.

According to the investigation, on July 1, 2022, the suspect came to an apartment where a young child was alone, committed sexual assault against him, and then took his life. 

As reported by the media, the boy's mother at that time was at work in the city hospital.

When her son suddenly stopped answering her calls, the woman took time off from work and ran home.

The door to the apartment was open, the key stuck in the well from the inside.

The mother found the body of her son with traces of sexual abuse in the restroom - the killer drowned the child in the bath.

Now the issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being decided. 

“The progress of the investigation of the criminal case, on behalf of the chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee, is under control in the central office of the department,” the regional department of the Investigative Committee added.

The search for the criminal

Farewell to the murdered boy took place at the Monchegorsk morgue on the morning of July 6.

Near his house, the residents of the city staged an impromptu memorial, toys and flowers are brought there.

At the time of the parting of the townspeople with the child, the pedophile killer was still not detained.

The search for the perpetrator lasted a week, law enforcement agencies checked for involvement of all family acquaintances.

The investigation believed that the child would not open the door to a stranger, so he could know the killer.

However, the version was also considered, according to which the criminal, under some pretext, tricked the boy into letting him into the house.

According to MK, a 55-year-old acquaintance of the family was suspected of the initial crime.

He was detained, but soon released - according to the familiar family of the deceased, the detainee had an ironclad alibi.

Several people confirmed that they saw him in another place at the time of the crime.

Law enforcement agencies have not yet revealed the identity of the detainee.

The regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs published a video of his detention by special forces.

On the recording, the police run up to the man right on the street, knock him to the ground and put on handcuffs.

He offers no resistance.

If the man's guilt is proven, he faces punishment up to life imprisonment.

Help for the family

As RT found out, the 45-year-old mother of the deceased boy raised him alone - just six months ago, she tragically lost her husband.

A woman friend told about this loss in the RT family.

“The boy just graduated from the first grade, he studied with the child of my girlfriend.

A terrible tragedy ... My father died in an accident six months ago, several more people died there, the man just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, ”said RT’s interlocutor.

Familiar families complained about the excessive interest of journalists in the mother of the murdered and urged to leave the woman alone.

Both the mother and grandmother of the deceased boy are now in shock and are taking serious sedatives, members of the Overheard: Monchegorsk No. 1 group said on the VKontakte social network. 

“Mom is already telling everyone that she is not the mother of this child, so (her

) they got it,” a woman who spoke with RT is indignant.

The children's ombudsman of the Murmansk region Alevtina Andreeva, who spoke with RT, also made an appeal to leave the mother alone for a while.

According to her, the commissioner's office is aware of the tragedy and is monitoring the development of events.

“Of course, we are monitoring this situation and will not leave this family without help, but we need to wait a bit.

At the moment, we consider it not entirely correct to intervene additionally in the family - a woman has just lost a child, she is in a stage of grief, ”the Ombudsman explained.
