6:47 am: Evacuations continue in Sloviansk

Civilians continued to evacuate the bombed city of Sloviansk in eastern Ukraine on Wednesday.

It must be said that this is the priority of the Russian forces in their plan for the total conquest of the Donbass basin.

"There are currently 23,000 inhabitants" in Sloviansk, which had around 110,000 before the conflict, "17 have died and 67 have been injured" since the start of hostilities, said Mayor Vadim Liakh.

In this city that has been bombed for several weeks, "essential infrastructure is still functioning, but there has been no central water supply network for a month and a third of the city is regularly without electricity", he said. He underlines.

According to him, “the Russians cannot approach” Sloviansk or “encircle” it, because they are blocked by Ukrainian soldiers about forty kilometers away.

6:29 am: Russian staff leave the Council of Europe

Staff from the Russian representation in Strasbourg were due to board a Russian flight yesterday and leave French territory a little over three months after Moscow was expelled from the Council of Europe, the Quai d'Orsay said.

Around 6:30 p.m., the street where the Russian embassy in Strasbourg is located was blocked by gendarmerie vans.

According to the specialized flight tracking site FlightRadar24, "an official Russian plane" was at the end of the afternoon about to arrive at Basel-Mulhouse international airport.

The plane followed a particularly long route over Turkey and the Mediterranean before entering French airspace.

Russian planes are no longer allowed to fly over Europe, under international sanctions.

Russia was officially expelled on March 16 from the Council of Europe, of which it had been a member since 1996. A watchdog for human rights in Europe, the Council, created in 1949, had until then brought together almost all the states of the continent, 47 in total, including Russia and Ukraine.

War continues to rage in eastern Ukraine.

After taking Lysytchansk on Sunday, the Russian army ensures that almost all of the province of Lugansk is in its hands, which the Ukrainians refute.

The Russians are now seeking to conquer the province of Donetsk, thus occupying the entirety of Donbass.

To do this, they need to take Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, the two largest cities in the province kept by the Ukrainians.
