The men, who are 21 and 18 years old, lived in an HVB home in the area and this is where the fire is suspected to have started the night of 16 March.

They are both charged with aggravated arson.

Retirement homes were affected

According to the indictment, the fire was started in or near a sofa inside the HBV home.

It then spread to four adjacent buildings and affected a nursing home, a preschool, an LSS home and office premises belonging to Region Skåne and Ängelholm municipality.

- From a purely technical point of view, it has not been possible to find anything that speaks for or against it being constructed, but one of the defendants has told how it happened, says Helene Jacobsson, prosecutor.

Value: SEK 100 million

In addition, there was a danger of fire or smoke spreading to additional buildings.

The total value of the buildings is around SEK 100 million, the prosecutor writes in the lawsuit.

- It has had major consequences for many people and it is great values ​​that have been damaged.

Fortunately, no one was injured, says Helene Jacobsson.

One of the witnesses who will appear in the trial has heard one of the accused say that he was the one who started the fire.

Another witness has been called to tell about one of the accused's anger towards the staff at the HVB accommodation.

The 21-year-old man has admitted that he started the fire but denies a serious arson.

The other man denies the crime.
