The process of finding a successor could be completed as late as September, October.

The Tory party is expected to present a timetable next week for how to proceed in the process.

- Then maybe we will see how fast this change of power goes and if he can stay until September, October as he himself seems to have thought, says Rolf Fredriksson.

Should Boris Johnson remain in a transitional government, there is the possibility for the Labor Party to initiate a so-called no-confidence vote.

If Boris Johnson loses it, it will be a new election, something that the Tory party would rather avoid.

Who is expected to take over from Boris Johnson is still unclear.

Some hot candidates are former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab, who according to information is not interested, Defense Minister Ben Wallence and Foreign Minister Liz Truss.

- There are many names and no obvious, obvious candidate at all, says SVT's foreign reporter Rolf Fredriksson.
