Boris Johnson took office in the summer of 2019 after the election chief won and has been prime minister for three years.

But the man whose credibility has been weakened by scandals, was forced to announce his resignation from the leadership of the Conservative Party while remaining at the head of the government until a successor was chosen.

July 2019: Big Victory


Boris Johnson was elected leader of the Conservative Party on July 23, 2019 after a landslide victory against Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

The next day Queen Elizabeth II appointed him prime minister and promised a speedy exit from the European Union.

January 2020: The Brexit champ


In December 2019 the hugely popular Johnson won a historic Conservative majority in the House of Commons in an early legislative election.
