More than 30 fake news items a day spread in the information war after Russia entered Ukraine, says journalist Ksenia Iliuk, head of research at Detector Media.

- The demand for fake news to be revealed is increasing among the average Ukrainian, she says.

"Difference in approach"

But Ksenia Iliuk also knows that Ukraine is part of the propaganda war, but that the decentralized media landscape makes an overall strategy with fake news from above impossible.

- The big difference lies in the approach.

Ukrainians are now spreading war propaganda to preserve the morale of the military and the people.

They do not use false information and they do not manipulate.

At the same time, the journalistic principles are being challenged if their work risks adversely affecting the Ukrainian military or civilians on the front lines.
