The heating plant in Sala is one of the losers after the European Commission's decision that only the combined heat and power plants that burn fossil fuels will receive emission rights free of charge in the future.

Sala-Heby Energy has switched entirely to renewable fuels in its heating plant.

They believe that they will lose SEK 25 million over a four-year period.

Sala-Heby Energy has appealed the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's decision to deny the company free emission rights.

Their appeal was recently rejected by the Land and Environment Court, which Aktuell Hållbarhet was the first to report.

But the small energy company does not give up, but goes further legally.

They hope to be able to push the issue all the way up to the European Court of Justice.

In the clip you see what is burned instead of fossil fuels in the Silverworks in Sala.
