In several schools, the public prosecutor's office had the rooms of the school administrations and also the private apartments of school administrations searched.

As the education department announced on Tuesday, caretakers are suspected of accepting advantages and taking bribes.

It is about donations from those responsible for a service provider who was responsible for cleaning numerous properties.

As early as 2021, the public prosecutor's office had passed on evidence that school building managers were guilty of taking advantage.

After the allegations were confirmed, the city reacted immediately with official sanctions, according to the education department.

A dismissal without notice had been given, and all school building administrators had had to take part in additional anti-corruption training.

Based on the incidents from 2021, the public prosecutor and customs would have continued the investigation and have now discovered other suspects and another cleaning company involved.

The searches last Thursday were the result of this investigation.

The city notes with great concern that the extent of the suspected cases appears to be greater than previously known and expected, said Education Department Head Sylvia Weber (SPD).

"All colleagues in the offices and I personally feel betrayed and take the situation very seriously." The city will cooperate closely with the public prosecutor's office and do everything necessary to clarify the matter.

The management of the affected schools have been informed that the caretaker service will be ensured by representatives.
