They were both teachers in the same college in Tarbes.

A woman and a man were shot dead on Monday in the small village Pouyastruc, in the Hautes-Pyrénées.

The body of the first victim was first found at the end of the afternoon, lying in a street in the town, by neighbors who alerted the gendarmes.

Arrived on the spot, the latter discovered a man, deceased in his house, a few meters further.

A suspect on the run

The alleged perpetrator "is on the run, he could not be arrested for the moment," Tarbes prosecutor Pierre Aurignac told AFP, without giving details of his identity.

An investigation has been opened for double homicide and an autopsy of the bodies of the victims must be performed.

The 55-year-old man was, according to

, a sports teacher.

The 32-year-old woman taught French.

At this stage, the prosecutor refused to give details on the possible motivations of these crimes and it is not known what the link between the two professors was.
