To get an overview of the police's activities, meet police aspirants and participate in a patrol - that was on Magdalena Andersson's (S) schedule when she visited Växjö on Tuesday.

Later in the day, she held a press conference where a government news was presented: That Sweden now has more police and police employees than the country has ever had before - 2382 police and 35723 police employees.

More want to become police officers

The police authority has thus reached new records, but the training is also beginning to see an upswing.

- Now we have actually received gratifying figures that more people are applying for police training and that they are now about to fill the places, she says and continues:

- I met two police aspirants who had just gone to the police academy and when I asked: Would you advise others to go to police training?

So both said "Absolutely".

During the press conference, SVT also took the opportunity to ask questions about the gang crime and fatal shootings that have affected Växjö in the past year, but above all Kalmar.

- We are many who view with great concern the gang crime that plagues our society.

Now it is also looking into places and areas that were previously relatively protected, says Magdalena Andersson

"Terrible development"

We have had several fatal shootings in Kalmar recently, a city that has barely had any shootings before, how do you see that development?

- It is a terrible development, she says and continues:

- We need to work hard to ensure that young people see a different future than joining and being lured into the criminal gangs.

SVT also asked the question whether this is a failure for the current government.
