At least seven people died in connection with the landslide on the mountain top Marmolada and many people are still missing.

It is unclear how many it is about, as you are not sure how many were on the mountain.

On Tuesday, it is assumed that 13 people are missing, according to Italian media.

A huge drift of ice and rock crashed down the mountain top at high speed, towards climbers and hikers.

These are believed to have been dragged into the landslides, or down into one of the cracks along the slope.

Still a selfie

A missing person is a 27-year-old Italian man who is the father of a four-year-old boy, Italian newspapers report.

Earlier on Sunday, the man had taken a selfie which he sent to his relatives and friends with a text that read something like "Look where I am!".

After the crash, the relatives and friends have tried in vain to get hold of him.

One of the confirmed victims is a Czech citizen who traveled with another Czech person who is now missing, the Czech Foreign Ministry reports according to AFP.

Relatives of missing persons have gathered in the nearby town of Canazei awaiting information.

There are also four parked cars with foreign registration plates waiting: two Czech, one German and one Hungarian.

Draghi: It's the climate

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi also traveled to Canazei on Monday.

He stated that the landslide is linked to the global climate situation.

"Measures must be taken so that what has happened at Marmolada never happens in Italy again," he said according to the news agency Ansa.

There have been unusually high temperatures in the alpine area in recent days, with a maximum of ten plus degrees at an altitude of 3,000 meters.

The search operation had to be interrupted for several hours on Monday when it was made more difficult by the hot weather conditions.

On Tuesday evening, a major storm is expected in parts of the Italian Alps, which has caused several warnings and evacuations for new glacier landslides.

Hard-earned victims

Drones are used to try to find traces of the missing.

On Tuesday, clothing was discovered in this way, reports La Repubblica.

Since the victims have been subjected to enormous forces of nature, the rescue service expects to find individual remains, with the hope of minor characteristics that can provide answers about who they belong to.
