China Overseas Chinese Network, July 5th. According to Canada's "Sing Tao Daily" report, due to the large number of people applying for passports in major cities such as Metro Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal, the Canadian federal government is taking measures to simplify the process, hoping to effectively manage the large number of passports. Queuing crowds, but also able to provide services to those in need.

Service Canada is implementing new classification measures to provide a more intensive and applicant-specific approach.

The measure, which began in Montreal last month, will be extended to Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.

A number of managers and administrators have been added to assist the long-running team to speak directly to applicants before the office hours of the passport application centers in these cities.

The classification method varies by location, but depending on the situation, service personnel communicate with applicants to give priority to those who go abroad within 24 to 48 hours.

As for nationals who plan to travel abroad at a later date, they are referred to the most suitable service channel to ensure that they obtain their passports in a timely manner without disrupting their travel plans.

The triage procedure is divided into three groups

The measures include leveraging a network of more than 300 service centres across the country to secure service staff, technology and processing capacity to provide passport appointments for less urgent nationals who have gone through a triage process.

In the Greater Toronto Area, triage procedures are divided into three groups:

  (1) To go abroad within 24 to 48 hours, the applicant must first collect the ticket at the center and indicate the appointment time for returning to the service counter. At that time, the travel certificate must be presented.

  (2) To go abroad within 3 to 19 days, the applicant is instructed to go to a specific Canadian service center nearby and make an appointment, and a travel certificate is also required.

  (3) More than 20 days or no specific travel date.

Waiting times for face-to-face services at specific passport centres can be found on the relevant websites.

Due to the current backlog of claims, nationals may be required to resubmit photos and original documents for faster service.

If you choose the in-person service without an appointment, you should have all the documents you need to apply for a passport in order to renew your passport, or apply for a new passport for an adult or child.

According to the data, Service Canada issued a total of 363,000 passports between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021.

From April 1 last year to March 31 this year, 1,273,000 were issued.

This year, since April 1, 456,000 have been issued.

Authorities expect between 3.6 million and 4.3 million applications this year and next.

For applications processed within the week of June 20, 76% of nationals received their passports within 40 working days; 94% received their passports within 10 working days after submitting their applications in person at designated centres.
