America Spying on Russia and China's Missiles with Airships

The US military plans to spend more than $27 million in fiscal year 2023 on projects to use high-altitude military airships to track missiles from Russia and China.

According to the newspaper "Politico", citing the Pentagon's budget project and experts I interviewed, it is planned to place balloons equipped with solar panels with monitoring devices at an altitude of 18.3 to 27.4 kilometers above the surface of the earth.

These blimps could supplement more expensive satellite systems already in use by the Pentagon.

According to Tom Karako, a fellow at the American Center for Strategic and International Studies, airships can be the basis for various platforms, including communications holding, data transmission, intelligence operations, and tracking missile threats and other types of weapons.

The expert adds: "Platforms placed at high altitudes and extremes have many operational advantages, including maneuverability and multitasking."
