The bishop of Versailles (Yvelines) announced in a press release this Friday the suicide of a 50-year-old priest.

His body was found on the night of June 30 to July 1 in the forest of Rambouillet (Yvelines).

The man was known for his denunciation of the silence surrounding pedocrime cases in the Church, indicates

last December.

The priest notably called for "adequate rules of governance to compensate for any abuse".

He felt that “if there is sexual abuse, it is because there is also, and perhaps first and foremost, abuse of power”.

18 years in the same diocese

The 50-year-old had been without an ecclesiastical mission since September 2021 but had previously been a priest in the parishes of the diocese of Versailles for 18 years.

The Bishop of Versailles expressed his "pain" and assured to feel "the pain of all those who were able to know and appreciate him".
