On September 13, 1814, in the early morning, the British Royal Navy bombarded the port of Baltimore, in the United States.

After 25 hours of attack, the American soldiers manage to repel the enemy.

After the battle, the American lawyer Francis Scott Key (1779-1843) wrote a few verses.

In November 1814, a printer will publish this poem, entitled "The star-spangled banner".

Set to music, in 1931 it became the national anthem of the United States.
